About this Book

Simone Hickey holds a Diploma in Folklore & History and an MA in Historical & Heritage Studies. Her research area of interest is early twentieth-century Irish history, in particular, the Great War 1914-18. She lectured on Myths & Legends and Famine & Pre-Famine Times for the Diploma in Folklore & History programs at St Angela’s College, Sligo where she was a module leader.

While doing her masters in Historical and Heritage Studies, she wrote about the Devi’s Own, a nickname for the Connaught Rangers who were fearless in battle. She could scarcely believe the amount of Sligo men who volunteered and went to war between 1914 and 1918. When it came time to choose a research question for her thesis, her supervisor recommended taking the topic a little furthering with a view to discovering how many from Sligo served in The Great War. This book is the product of that thesis and many subsequent years of research.

To support the release of Brining Them Home, Simone is available for interviews and public lectures. She can be contacted directly by emailing simonehickey@googlemail.com or by calling 087 996 861.
